Unlimited test capacity

Challenge and Ambition

In the continuous effort of optimizing the design and performance of fuel cell stacks, the lack of availability and flexibility of the physical test facilities quickly became the bottleneck. The ambition to investigate more than one thing at the same time made Multiphysics simulation an obvious choice. The focus was to include fuel flow distribution, reaction kinetics, heat management, and material selection in one model to speed up the number of investigations within the project period.

Solution

resolvent developed a stack model based on the flow field homogenization approach, that conjugated the complexity of a fully coupled fuel cell stack model with a reasonable computational time. This allowed for reduced costs and significantly shorter development time thanks to a reduction in the number of prototypes and experimental tests.
