Radically Different Speaker Design

Challenge and Ambition

Fibona Acoustics were developing a new speaker with a radically different design. Rather than the typical cone-shaped diaphragm, stiffening indentations were employed to provide a shallow diaphragm, resulting in a system with a very low overall height.

Predicting the dynamic behavior of this new diaphragm design, was crucial to optimize the thickness and indentation configuration.

Solution

Initially, an eigenfrequency study yielded insight into the modes seen in the diaphragm.

A vibroacoustic analysis was then used to study the frequency response of the system, giving a detailed insight into resonances, etc.
