Resolvent has collaborated with several start-up companies that heavily rely on executing and analysing experiments of proprietary technology.
“The Live Viewer facilitated by resolvent is used on almost a daily basis during meetings with various stakeholders.”
– Lars Storm Pedersen, CEO, Saltpower
In this project, we aided in strengthening the IT infrastructure to prepare the company for efficient scaling up its research and development activities.
The concrete objectives were:
- Establish an infrastructure for remote monitoring of physical tests, while maintaining data safety
- Implement good coding practice, including setting up a repository, versioning, and automatised unit testing
- Train critical staff in the above areas
Saltpower is a clean energy provider that manipulates saltwater and water streams to leverage their differences in chemical potential (osmotic pressure) to generate electricity in a process, having a resemblance to a heat pump. The company has pilot and demonstration plants spread out geographically in Denmark.
Live Viewer – Data Access Anywhere, anytime
A modular Python-based API was developed together with the customer, that made it easy develop and serve custom Live Viewer dashboards all hosted by resolvent. The Live Viewer was set up to continuously retrieve customers’ locale data and present them securely and efficiently so that any user could access with any browser on any device from anywhere.
The customer was heavily involved in the set-up process thereby efficiently transferring the knowledge and software back to the customer.
“Resolvent helped us to build and deploy dashboards using modern UI and data tools that would otherwise have taken us months of setting up ourselves. This tool liberated internal engineering resources for focusing on business-critical tasks”
– Atli Freyr Magnusson, Chemical Process Engineer, Saltpower
Git Pull, Implement, Test, Commit, Push
Resolvent kick-started the company’s target of transitioning to git for managing proprietary code and to increase the robustness towards scaling up the involved engineering team. This included initializing a repository, branching strategy, continuous integration (including unit tests), documentation, version control. Again, a strong involvement of customer allowed seamless handover to customer.
“Resolvent cleared the barriers for adopting a Git-based approach using good coding practices and test-driven software development for coding in my team.”
– Atli Freyr Magnusson, Chemical Process Engineer, Saltpower
How can resolvent help?
Consider resolvent for helping in getting the most out of engineering resources and data in your organization. In resolvent, we work with data and engineering problems on a regular basis applied in a wide range of engineering fields (physics, chemistry, mechanics, etc.). Hence, we bring additional domain knowledge into the projects, which eases communication and makes our involvement proactive.
Through this showcase example, we illustrated how resolvent could accelerate research and development activities and scalability by making code and data available anytime across the organisation.
No matter the starting point, our expertise covers relevant steps in realising a fully scalable data infrastructure (Figure 2) involving:
- IT Infrastructure (servers, software platforms, hardware selection, cloud-based solutions, etc.)
- Good coding practice
- Training
